Hello I'm Zion Shad and I'm running to represent you in DUST514, EVE Legion and in the CPM1
Who am I-
I'm a guy who was raised under the saying "Measure twice, Cut Once". This is a saying that is rarely ever seen applied to the balancing of Dust514. I'd like that change by seeing more player involvement with CCP changes to the game. I also believe in getting to the point so this might be shorter then most posts
I'm a guy who believes in Strait Truths and Handshakes (Having a man keep his word). This was something I applied in full force during Fan Fest to get the strait truth on Dust 514 having a Expiration Date. This is something I will apply for you as a representative to help gain facts and not these run around answer. Not sure about you but i hate being tap-danced on.
I'm a guy who loves playing Dust514. Who enjoys sharing with New Eden our footsteps and accomplishment through our podcast "Podside" and through talks with EVE capsuleers. Who wants to see Dust 514 be fun in the remaining time with the PS3.
I'm a guy that wants to represent you in making the game we always wanted to play. And if you like to know more about me please click here
As your Representative-
To me Communication is Key and I would like to start with making sure we have regularly held Town Hall meets and in-game discussions. I also want to open as many avenues of communication to the community with the CPM1 and CCP through things such as Blogs, forum posts, Videos/streams and Podcasts. And should you ever like to get a hold of me, you can reach me @ZionShad on Twitter, ZionShad on Skype and [email protected]
With the future I want to keep a close eye on the Skill Progression changes that are taking place with CCP Z and apply these 3 Principals that not only Fox Gaden posted but that I do agree with which are:
- The progression system needs to be non linear (logarithmic), so that new players can become competitive against veterans fairly quickly
- Every skill point invested should provide a tangible benefit.
- No max number of skill points
I have sat at the round tables to discuss these changes and would like to carry on with the prossess to make sure we get what we want.
I'd also like to hold CCP in showing us more then just "Look a Burning Tree" in whats to come.
And I want player transfers to be taken care of on the players timing. CCP should never have a set date/time frame (while Dust is running) of transfer with a Head-Shot attached to force you in to another game. You should change on your own accord should you choose.
With the present I want DUST514 to be FUN within the remainder of the PS3. I want to push the limitation of the "Current game Mechanics" and share them with you so that we can craft events and game play to what we want. I also want to make sure we are given regular released patches and events for DUST514 or hold CCP accountable if we are left behind. Lets face it 1.8 was rushed and not tested while they switched focus on to Legion. Lets change that moving forward.
With no player trading on the table I want Dust514 players to have the ability to liquidate any assets they choose by selling it back to the NPC Market for ISK. We have **** will never use and we want it sold for something.
And in closing I want to see PC to no longer be a ISK printing machine, but to be a place where we can once again be somewhere we can put our skill to the test. So in this I want to meet with you and know exactly what you want.
Any questions or comment don't wait for the Beep, just post below
I'm ZionShad. A guy who wants to be your CPM1 representative

To give credit where it's due. This is something we all want and thought of in someway, but it was Kain who brought it up during FF. It make since and should Kain not run for CPM I want to make sure someone fights for this.

Jaysyn Larrisen wrote:Shad,
I suspected you might become involved in the CPM race at some point; glad to have another candidate for the race.
With the introduction of what we now know as Project: Legion the landscape has changed for the CPM hopefuls. You have two focus areas to help the community out with Dust and the development of Legion. Outside of your media work many haven't seen you and ZionTCD in game for a while (i know you still play though) ...are you guys involved in the recent PC district shuffle?
1) Other than the forums how do you intend to collect and communicate requests, needs, POV of the community? In particular, those outside your corp / alliance.
To start with Collecting, I plan to make sure we have regularly held Town Hall meets and in-game discussions in a set Chat channel on a weekly/biweekly schedule and it be open to the public. I also plan to restart my Corp Tour and meet with Corps and Alliances within their Turf( so I will be outside of my Corp and Alliance a lot) for Ive found this to be a lot of fun and very informative at the same time. My contact info has also been provided.
As far as communicating with the community (outside of the mentioned above) I will continue to Blog and be attend not only Podside but other Podcasts as well. I will create Videos, do interviews/Q&A's with Devs and stream
2) What level of interaction would you like to establish between the CPM and CSM? What areas are critical for you to work together on going forward.
On our episode of Podside last night (5/17) I spoke with Mike Azariah (Current CSM member) about this topic. I have known Mike for almost 2 years and already communicate with him on a regular bases. He informed me that a Skype channel (He created) is already established between the CSM & CPM so they may meet and chat almost daily. Skype is also the way the CSM/CPM speak with CCP on a daily bases. They also exchange Emails as well.
What I'd do is examine the current means of communication and offer advice if I see any kind of improvement outside of the already established means. I was raised to believe if something not broke, don't fix it... Improve it
3) What are the top 3 Dust related changes you would encourage CCP to make for the current player base in the next few months. I'm looking for concrete examples that are realistic to achieve.
1st is an Idea put out by Kain Sparrow (Current CPM and has understanding of current game mechanics) that I have adopted and that is Dust514 players to have the ability to liquidate any assets they choose by selling it back to the NPC Market for ISK.
2nd will be the creation of new Game Modes and removal of Red Zones.
3rd is to make Dust 514 Fun. What I mean by this is getting involved with the events and activity's of the community leaders and not only making sure they are worth playing in, but that they continue with no falterer
4) What aspect or features in Legion that you've heard of are you most interested in working on? What features discussed so far are you most concerned about and why?
PvE and Planet exploration is just one aspect I want to get my hands on and is something we can get a sneak preview of now. Should I be elected I will push to make exploration an event within Dust 514. Im excited to check out personal drones as well that will aid us in this exploration of Legion in collecting resources.
I have also been a long time advocate of Dust/Legion involvement with EVE Online Capsuleers. I know what aspects of their game play they want affected. Such thing that we at Podside already help establish with WarBarge Mechanics. Capsuleers have shared with me that they to want a deeper interaction with their planet side brethren(us). So you can expect me to be deeply involved with this as well
And though I can go on Ill leave this question on this. A long time ago I made a post about "Space Taxis". This was an Idea of Capsuleers having the ability to fly Dust mercs to different stations and solar systems for a fee. Well during FanFest Atli disclosed that this is an idea they are found of because it will cause more player interaction. So you bet your ass I will get this.
5) In Spring of 2015, when CPM1's term is up, what would you want people to have said about your tenure as a CPM member?
1st I think of CPM1 as being a Team and if our jobs are done correctly they will speak of us as a whole. After seen some current post and drama I hope it set an example to all who are running. So with that said what I would want them to say about us is that we were a force for the community and that we were not afraid to push boundaries, to speak up and get **** done.
For those that will server with me (should I be elected) I would hope they think of me as the Big Brother that will have their backs when they need it
6) Will you be creating a channel for folks to meet and sqd with you during the period before the election?
Yes starting Wednesday. I will have a post with Details.

Soraya Xel wrote:Zion, you know me, so I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I have to call you out on one notion. The "removal of red zones" would be a completely irresponsible change. The red zones are, in many matches, the only area players can possibly recover from an unending murderous slaughter. If you remove the red zones, the sole response to being five-capped will be to leave match. Because there will be no point in doing anything else.
The redline isn't the problem. The problem is where the redline is located. Players need a fallback position. However, the issue with the redline is that high-elevation sniper perches overlooking the entire map is in the redline. There's no problem with snipers, or them using high ground, which is their ideal places. The problem is that those spots are in the redline.
All that really needs to be done, is the redline needs to be redrawn so it does not have a direct overlook over the combat area. People should be able to fall back to the redline, but they shouldn't be able to see the entire map while still behind the redline.
Of course, you're entitled to your view (and certainly not all CPM candidates should have the same views), but at the very least, I'd like to hear some justification for the intention.
It was poor wording and already corrected. I was thinking on Red Zone Abuse and not the entire zone itself. I agree you need an area to recover, but things like Red line sniping need to be address. It only pads that players KDR and provides no true benefit for team play of Pubs.
Ideas & solutions need to be presented and this time with Dust can be a great testing ground

Red lines and map design is tricky. If you make a bowl, you give advantage to the Red line. But if you make a hill, you can make it to easy to be red lined. Is there a simple answer... Maybe not, but testing is a good start and something we have not seen much of.
Whats your thoughts on a solution? I would like your feedback.

Appia Vibbia wrote:Zion Shad is so lucky. He brought the oh-so-very-fun topic of red-line into his thread. Pokey Dravon wrote: The hills on the edge of a map serve to help cover up the fact that there is much less detail beyond the hard redline. That being said, if the hardware is capable of handling the rendering and generation of a massive area without loss of fidelity in the graphics, the need for these barriers is diminished. Quote mining to add, the new Fractured Road, Boarder Gulch, and Impact Ridge are all a single terrain. You can take a dropship and within 20 seconds examine the map to see they are fully constructed but without any surface installations. You can do the same on the older maps... but you don't find any of the other maps connected to them. Line Harvest is probably the best example of a terrible red-line map. On the attacker side you spawn up high, then go down to "sea level" then find 2 hills on each side, 2 buildings, and another structure which all gives you high ground. And on the defender side the Hill in the back is too far to get to and harbors Thale's users. (Though I really love the terrain inside the map on Line Harvest, it's one of my favorites because there's a sufficient amount of cover for Infantry to move around in, unlike the 3 most recent additions.)
Like I said... Red lines are tricky when you have maps made bigger then the intended game play. Only in testing can balance be found. For Dust 514 maps will have to see

Llast 326 wrote:The term Community is an important part of the CPM position, indeed every candidate uses the term at some point. However it is an abstract concept, so what I would like is to hear your definition of community. No right or wrong answers here, just looking to get a better feel of where you are coming from.
1. a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage. 2. a locality inhabited by such a group. 3. a social, religious, occupational, or other group sharing common characteristics or interests and perceived or perceiving itself as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which it exists.
Well that's community by defanation and wanted to establish my understanding of the basics. But the community of Dust514 is more to me then a basic meaning, it's a place that is home to many of my friends. I Understand that this is a community made up of many micro commuitys such as corps and alliances or in the form of PC and faction warfare. That there are both new comers and bitter vets. I want to strive in bringing activity's and asset those who strive to bring content to the many and the few.
I define this as my community

My first question was generated by reading your campaign policies and your very clear and straight approach to each one, most particularly was the discussion around your belief in the community and 'those who are active in community work' recieving tools and promotion from CCP et al in their efforts. Can you elaborate on what you believe will be the deliverables of such a task?
As a content producer for Dust 514 - I can myself confirm that CCP are not very helpful and engaging with those who help promote their game so i would be keen to know what actual outputs you foresee from such a great project.
Sure thing man and glad you stopped by.
Now in the past I can only speak in my dealings with CCP and can not speak in how they have treated others. In my Dust514 WOF (wall of fame) I was given codes to pass out to those receiving awards and to their corp mates. This was helpful and came about after a Skype meeting with both EX-CCP CMDR WANG & EX-CCP SyberWing (Both however are now sadly gone from CCP). However I am still here and will connect with whomever takes their place. Now 1st I would want to establish a Fansite kit/update for who want things such as images, icons and even music to build site for Dust/Legion. Next is to open the door to Dev access for interviews in Podcasts, Streams and YouTube videos (for the likes of yourself). Other Tools will have to wait after (IF) Im elected to see what would be at our disposal
Now the next part of these is a more personal touch. Giving an ear to your voice. Creating more of the meetings I had with community leaders and catering to the needs of the individual content creator. I understand not every project, Idea or Medium is the same and therefor must be handled accordingly for all partys to get what they want. So I will have a direct line for ALL content creators to pitch their projects to CCP or Myself
Quote:CEOPyrex CloneA
my second question comes from the comment of 'player transfers' i think you are the first person to actually mention this in a campaign pitch so firstly, wanted to say thanks for that, secondly what do you feel CCP could have done better in their comms around this topic at fanfest?
Given the CPM0 were fully aware of the 'drama bomb' that was coming with fanfest, i found it very disappointing to see that their hands were fully tied with the NDA and in effect were unable to act in the communities best interests at all, rendering the process moot. What would you have done differently here given that communications and the fair transfer are key policies for your campaign?
This was a question I answered on Podside right after FanFest should you be looking for some audio clips at all and no worrys Id love to answer here as well for you.
Before FanFest Members of CCP should had picked up on the concerns of CPM0 and realized how delicate the situation was in front of them. Then they should have proceeded with care and understanding in the presentation as well as informing CCP Rouge that the roundtables were not being streamed. They preach about a sandbox and persistent universe, but didn't realize the emotional connection players have with their avatars in trying to pitch to us that Dust and Legion would be 2 separate games though clearly one is dyeing and all those in it would die as well.... The deal to transfer Should had been done before fanfest and not during. It should had been reveled that Legion was the future of Dust 514 and that players could transfer over and then the "to ensure the continued development and support of DUST 514" should had been emphasized at this point on stage and not the day after.
Now hindsight is 20/20 and this situation should not arise again. Part of my interest in being part of CPM1 is to make sure that this transfer that I got to be a part of creating will continue and go smoothly and that the payers get to keep their footprints in the sand. To be honest I also want to see it happen with my own eyes because I don't trust anyone else to try and relay this.

This is true, but I want more of an ease of access to the content over having to go through hoops. For Eve Online they have a section of their site dedicated to fansites and content plus files to download from there such as icons and the like which are updated regularly... We simply don't have that.
CEOPyrex CloneA wrote:
This is an interesting statement to me, would this mean that you would be in fact be potentially the default first port of call for all Dust 514 content creators? would this also mean that you would have a sign off authority for this? A direct line implies you would be the gate keeper for all 3rd party content, something im sure you would have to accept is not perhaps a role for the CPM?
As a content creator myself for the entire life of Dust 514 - i can say that CCP are terrible at acknowledging 3rd party content creators and the value they bring. My fear would be that if the CPM became part of the 'on boarding process' for this group, we would see even less activity than what we have so far. major concern for me.
"A" not "The only"... I want to help and understand how hard it can be to gain the support and recognition it takes to grow as a creator. Content creators help in the promotion of video games and the morale of an existing community. Plus it is costly in the personal time spent & equipment cost it takes to produce such content. Seeing these difficulty's and the changing in community management, the established avenues for any support become harder to find.
Quote:"Now hindsight is 20/20 and this situation should not arise again"
Sorry to say but that is quote a concerning final statement you raise there - sure hindsight is 20/20 but it also is commonly used by far too many people to brush under the carpet mistakes and balls ups generally. CCP have made an industry of providing this game with terrible customer service and focus on what is actually the main criteria for them, us.
Not really final. We are in a conversation after all. I used the word "Should" not "will" and knowing the track record of members of CCP I'd never put anything past them.
Quote:I think you have a great passion for the game, i would question your ability to be objective above your own interests slightly given you are obviously quite an entrepreneurial chap with great ideas but i would question that your focus and reason to run for CPM 1 is in the interests of the game, Dust 514, or really in the interests of the more important product to you, the product of brand 'Zion Shad'.
Lol, you can state that about any candidate. But my objectives align with those of this game and a lot of that is in growth. If my objective was in building a brand through my name then I would want to do that through a growing community and not in a dyeing one. I want Dust 514 to continue and grow and to see Legion come to be. After meeting with most of the candidates at events such as FanFest and seeing both our interaction and ability to accomplish goals, I would want that to continue.
Now I had no intention of running before, during or the days directly after. It was someone else at fanfest who spoke to me about it weeks after and convinced me to run. So this endeavor is to benefit the game and the community. Plus I want players to see the CPM1 as a team and not as individuals. So any 'branding' that may happen will only be as a byproduct of good work. Work that the community wants done and that is successful

However, I wish to focus on your campaign. I really want to vote for you. Can you help me distinguish what unique things you bring to the table as a candidate?
Can you provide me examples of how you've been here for the community? I know just that I know your name so well makes me think you have, although I also know Contrabanjoe's name as well >.<
Hey Ken!
first I'd like to say sorry for the late reply (4th of July weekend in all) and yes Id be glad to help u out.
What can be one of the most important attributes about me that almost none of the other candidates have had was the ability to speak with members of CCP on a regular bases(ISW is the exception being a CPM member currently) on Skype and in person. This has given me both experience and time to build relations with key members of the dev team. This will also help in the trust of feedback the CPM1 team brings to the table. This has also helped me create the Dust wall of fame earlier this year and give out great prizes.
Im also very community focused(in both players and content creators) where others are more about game mechanics and politics
Most recent was giving support and prizes for player ran community events such as this lotto Here
My company and I helped some Dust Players launch Biomassed! and continue to offer them a place to live stream every sunday
Before this and even before the wall of fame I went on a tour and visited many Corps of the and in fact I toured your corp as well. This is something that will start right away once more should I be elected
But one of my most proud moments was at FanFest and getting to speak for the community along with other players who attended and convincing CCP to allow player transfers from Dust to Legion. This is something I both helped start and would love the opportunity to see it finish from the front lines.
This isn't everything, but its a good start and some key points. There is a link in my OP that goes in to more detail and I ask you check it out when you have time. Let me know if you like to squad up as well.
Thanks for the post Ken
